Kentucky Derby Fair 2015 Cancelled Unfortunately, due to the extremely wet weather this spring we will be unable to host our annual Kentucky Derby Fair. We sincerely apologize to all who were looking forward to this wonderful event, and hope that next year’s fair (May 7th, 2016) will resume our tradition. We hope that you all enjoy the Kentucky Derby from wherever you chose to watch it. Myhre Equine Clinic Goes Solar! Myhre Equine Clinic (MEC) proudly announces the completion of the first of three stages of our solar energy project! MEC is an equine referral hospital that has been located in Rochester, New Hampshire for 45 years. The plan for adding solar power to the clinic was conceived by Dr. Grant Myhre and Michael Myhre (Future Dr. Myhre in 2016!) to become more environmentally responsible by creating self sustaining, clean energy production. MEC teamed with Harmony Energy from conception to installation of the panels. The first stage of the project was installation of 176 solar panels on the clinic roof. Average production is 50 kW/hr, on a sunny day that can be up to 600 kW/day! In a normal day the clinic uses about 300 kW, once the second and third stage are complete we will produce much more energy. Any excess energy is sent back to the electrical company to help power other homes and businesses in the area with clean energy! The next stages include solar panels at High Knoll Equestrian Center in Rochester, New Hampshire, and Cocheco Veterinary Hospital in Farmington, New Hampshire. When the project is complete Myhre Equine Clinic and Equestrian Center will be the largest solar energy provider in New Hampshire. The solar panels will still be at least 80% efficient in 25 years, and over that time frame they will produce enough energy to save approximately half a million dollars allowing us to treat many more horses with a more affordable service! Dr. Myhre also plans on replacing his Prius Hybrid to a plug in car powered from charging stations at the clinic! It is our goal that MEC can be a leader in the community, encouraging environmentally responsible practices and higher quality, affordable veterinary referral care.
